Mentoring & Consulting
Life is mysterious and life is hard. From falling in love to experiencing great loss, the seasons of relationships, grief, pleasure, joy and uncertainty regularly invite us into new stages and seasons of becoming. Sometimes these transitions need some extra space, attention and time for exploration and presence. Sometimes we are better able to incorporate and metabolize our potent human life experiences only when we feel seen and heard in ways that affirm and empower our essence.
I have been mentoring and accompanying others for over twenty years through stories of coming together and falling apart. From navigating estrangement, survival, shunning, religious trauma, recovery, marginalization, spiritual discovery, rejection, love, celebration and chosen family, I have experienced the profound impacts when those who need to be heard are witnessed with genuine care.
As a volunteer with Youth On Fire, I offered both concrete and emotional support to homeless and street-involved youth outside in Cambridge, MA. From job applications to finding housing to seeking harm reductive supports, I was there for whatever was on the menu on a given day. I then served as a Production manager for The Theater Offensive’s True Colors: OUT Youth Theatre, where participants create original work based on their own personal stories as queer and trans youth of diverse racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds, from all across different communities in Boston. Working with these youth expanded my awareness of the importance of telling one’s story and sharing the impacts of trauma and culture on an individual’s path and a community. My experiences as a youth worker really deepened when became an adult advisor with BAGLY, The Boston Alliance of LGBTQIA+ Youth, a youth-led, adult-supported social support organization, committed to social justice and creating, sustaining, and advocating for programs, policies, and services for the LGBTQIA+ youth community in Massachusetts. I served for over a decade with BAGLY youth and have watched some of them grow up from young teens to full grown adults, many of whom I still mentor today.
A lot of my mentoring and guiding was also intrinsic to work as “Handy Tam”, my former small business of fifteen years that brought me into many people’s homes and personal problems. I was hired to not only fix broken windows or repair walls or hang pictures and shelves, but I was hired to listen and bear witness to many people’s private lives, which included some heavy stories hidden within large beautiful homes.
I started retiring my tool bag as I began mentoring and training forest therapy guides in 2018, shortly after I completed a guide training in 2017. I have since worked with hundreds of forest therapy guides, facilitating dozens of 20-30 person cohorts through a six month certification program. I have planned and facilitated dozens of multi-day retreats and training immersions at a variety of nature-based venues and continue to run a variety of workshops and multi-day programs.
This is my current linage and context for what has informed me as a guide and mentor. I find great nourishment in witnessing stories and I have a genuine desire to listen and reflect back what needs to be known, celebrated, released, incorporated, metabolized, or liberated.
I guide and mentor folks in creating and maintaining ongoing regular nature connection practice, providing prompts and place-specific invitations that support a deepening sense of belonging. I walk through the forest with those who want to be heard.
I also offer support to space holders, guides, educators, and facilitators around program creation and execution, whether it be a retreat, a business avenue or a general inquiry about how to offer ones services in more expansive ways.
