Mentoring
I have always been an intense and deeply curious person, often seeking and questioning in ways that led me on quests towards truth and fullness. Some of my most potent life moments have been linked to experiences of feeling seen and heard in ways that affirm and empower the essence of who I am on Earth.
Life is mysterious and life is hard. From falling in love to experiencing great loss, the seasons of relationships, grief, pleasure, joy and uncertainty regularly invite us into new stages and seasons of becoming. These transitions often need special attention, time and space for exploration and presence.
With the support of some very caring and skillful guides and mentors in my life, I have been able to better incorporate, and metabolize my own human experiences, allowing me to show up more fully to life. As you consider entering into a mentoring relationship with me, I’d like to share some of the varied ways I have mentored and accompanied others for over twenty years.
As a volunteer with Youth On Fire, I offered both concrete and emotional support to homeless and street-involved youth outside in Cambridge, MA. I served as a Production manager for The Theater Offensive’s True Colors: OUT Youth Theatre, where participants create original work based on their own personal stories as queer and trans youth of diverse racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds, from all across different communities in Boston. Mentoring these youth expanded my understanding and appreciation for how trauma and culture affects an individual’s path of telling their story. This understanding continued while I was an adult advisor with BAGLY, The Boston Alliance of LGBTQIA+ Youth, a youth-led, adult-supported social support organization, committed to social justice and creating, sustaining, and advocating for programs, policies, and services for the LGBTQIA+ youth community in Massachusetts. These youth are now adults, and I am honored by ways in which I still connect to and support many of them today.
A lot of my mentoring and guiding was intrinsic to work as “Handy Tam”, my former small business of fifteen years that brought me into many people’s homes and personal problems. I was hired to not only fix broken windows or repair walls or hang pictures and shelves, but I was hired to listen and bear witness to many people’s private lives, which included some heavy stories hidden within large beautiful homes.
I started retiring my tool bag as I began mentoring and training forest therapy guides in 2018, shortly after I completed my first guide training in 2017. I have since worked with hundreds of forest therapy guides, facilitating dozens of 20-30 person cohorts through a six month certification program. This has included hosting dozens of multi-day retreats and training immersions at a variety of nature-based venues.
I share all this to give context to my lineage as a guide and mentor. I find great nourishment in witnessing stories and have a genuine desire to listen and reflect back what needs to be known, celebrated, released, incorporated, metabolized, or liberated. I guide and mentor folks in creating and maintaining an ongoing regular nature connection practice, providing prompts and place-specific invitations that support a deepening sense of belonging.
Mentoring Sessions can be 60-90 minutes and are offered at a sliding scale of $33 - $88*
